Project Introduction

Participate in the daily operations of one of Thailand's top English language newspapers. Located in Rayong Province, the paper covers local news and events, feature stories and classifieds, and also has a web version.

Location

Rayong: 85 miles east of Bangkok.

Job Description

This internship is an opportunity for a dedicated and committed individual to help research and write current news articles, which includes conducting interviews and the careful planning of stories. Working with the friendly staff, you will have an initial training period to familiarize yourself with the writing style of the newspaper. After this, there will be a high level of supervision as the staff helps you with writing and editing stories. With your English language skills, you will be proof reading and correcting stories written by Thai staff. You will definitely have many great opportunities to excel within this job and soon you could be writing your own independent feature articles or giving your input for the promotion of the paper. Interns offer a fresh perspective to local stories, advanced English language skills and a mature and flexible approach to work. Interns will help support staff members in all facets of the company's operation. This position has great potential for further training and career development in journalism or creative advertising.

Accomodation

A studio apartment is available a short distance from the paper. The location is ideal in that it is on the quiet side of "the hill" and offers a view of the Gulf of Thailand. Welcome offshore breezes will be a welcome friend. This medium-sized clean room has a private bathroom and shower. Also provided in the room is a double bed and sheet, closet, dresser, fridge and is air-conditioned. There are no cooking facilities in the rooms; however, the complex is within easy walking distance of many restaurants, cafes and bakeries, and eating out is cheap in Thailand.

Availability and Requirements

Internship available year-round.
Researching and writing skills are a must. You must also have an enthusiastic personality and willingness to learn new skills and take on delegated tasks. If you have no prior experience, it is worthwhile to read up on journalistic writing before you arrive in Thailand. The successful applicant will be an independent thinker and be self-motivated and committed. You do not need to have any professional experience in journalism, but if you have any school papers or stories that you have written and are particularly proud of, please include these with your application.
